Mazzaella Splendens

Back to gallery

Mazzaella Splendens is a red alga that has stretchy blades and can be found in the low intertidal and subtidal habitats. The blades can be many different colours but are normally thick and dark purple when wet, a distinguishing feature of M. Splendens is that when submerged in water, it can appear iridescent. M. Splendens is a larger species of Mazzaella and the blades can reach 120 cm (almost 4 feet) in length. Keep an eye for this species under the Tillicum bridge!
