Stephanie Gurney – Restoration Coordinator / Nature House Education and Outreach Coordinator

Stephanie graduated from the University of Victoria in 2018, earning a Bachelor of Science in Geography with a concentration in Environmental Sustainability, as well as a Diploma in Restoration of Natural Systems. Growing up near Esquimalt Gorge Park, Stephanie was naturally drawn to focus on the park for her academic studies and this passion in turn brought her to the Gorge Waterway Action Society. Over the summer of 2017, Stephanie worked with GWAS as their Ecological Restoration Technician summer student before joining the Board of Directors following her work term. Stephanie has conducted several biophysical inventories within Esquimalt Gorge Park to document the different plant species found in the various ecosystems of the park, specifically to highlight native species diversity. She also plans and organizes GWAS’s restoration initiatives, such as community events to remove invasive species from the forest behind the Nature House.
