Phylum Rotifera

Back to gallery

While Rotifers are more abundant and play a greater ecological role in freshwater plankton, rotifers are sometimes found in marine phytoplankton as well. The distinctive feature of a rotifer is the corona of cilia found at the anterior of the animal, which appears to whirl. Their internal anatomy can be viewed clearly through their transparent body.
